Unveiled by Governor-General Lord Jellicoe on 27 October 1921 along with those at Manaia and Opunake - (See Hawera Star 28 Oct 1921 in Web Links below) 

The WW II names were added in 1948.

Later in his Taranaki visit the G-G unveiled the Bell Block Memorial on the 30th October and may have unveiled the Patea District High School memorial steps on the way from Whanganu to Manaia.
