 S M & L G Okey Memorial  

Inscription on obelisk on Family Plot (Block C Row 4) including 3 other children and parents.

 The memorial appears to have been erected for the death of Sergeant Sydney Okey as his inscription is centre-front. Lionel Okey's inscription was added after his later death and the parents on the right hand side later still - Henry (1918) & Lousia (1937)

Aged 28 years

lay down his life for his friends

 

Sydney and Lionel's father - Henry James Hobbs Okey -  was Member of Parliament for Taranaki from 1907 to 1918.

Henry's brother, Alfred, was killed in action on the Somme in June 1916.Alfred is on the NPBHS memorial gates
