 The memorial was unveiled on 20 October 1920 by Miss Southcombe, the daughter of the school committee Chair (See Image and Document below)

The memorial also operated as a drinking fountain for the school pupils. Each side had a water supply, overflow 'cup' and a semi-circular step on the base to allow childen to reach the supply.The water and cups have been removed and the c8 cm hole filled with similar marble. See Image below)
