The Warea Soldier's Cemetery is also known locally as 'Brady's Grave'. See the attached detailed Document for the history of the site by Ivan Bruce, 2014.

John Brady of No 6 Coy, Taranaki Military Settlers, was killed on 28 February 1867 at the Moukoro Stream, some 7 km south of the Warea Redoubt.

His body was recovered and brought back to the redoubt some days later and buried nearby.

The grave site is situated on the seaward side of a small knoll, approximately 350m from the mouth of the Teikaparua (Warea) River, on the right (northern) bank of the river. Across the stream are the earthworks of Tarakihi pa.

Brady's Grave is on privately owned land.
