On Gibbs’ Fishing Point looking north along the Four Brothers Beach.

On Gibbs’ Fishing Point looking down on Gull Rock (west).

On Gibbs’ Fishing Point looking south along Beach One.

Low tide was around mid afternoon.

The weather was exceptionally calm, very hot and humid.  I remember thinking at the time that you could have stood there in the nuddy and still been too hot.

On Pilot Point looking south over the Tonga River and the Three Sisters Beach.

On the O’Sullivan’s farm looking south towards White Cliffs.

On the O’Sullivan’s farm looking north along Rapanui, specifically Rapanui South. (Note, I have divided Rapanui Beach into Rapanui North and Rapanui South).

Of further note:  The O’Sullivan’s farm’s southern boundary includes and overlooks Pilot Point while its northern boundary (travelling north), overlooks Rapanui South Beach.

The tide was mid-way in.

The weather was fine and mostly sunny, but there was some cloud about.  The sea state was relatively calm.

Tongaporutu Coastline - coastline from Pilot Road Point looking south across Tongaporutu River mouth

PHO2007-209

On Pilot Point looking south over the Tonga River and the Three Sisters Beach.

It was almost high tide.

I had been staying at the camping ground just south of Awakino because I wanted to do a dawn shoot from Pilot Point.  Most postcard views from this location are taken during the day or in the early evening to make the most of the setting sun.  I wanted something different.  Though fine, it was bloody freezing and there was frost on the ground.  The weather was fine and the sea was quite calm.
