Timata Ora Maternity Home

Gover Street, New Plymouth

Built in 1928 by Boon Brothers for Sister S. E. Ellis, the building operated as a maternity hospital. A building permit for the house was issued to Sister Ellis in August 1928 - the estimated cost was £2250.

It closed in 1957 and was converted into a private residence. It is now (2011) a bed and breakfast.

The recent loss of the original wooden windows and subsequent replacement with aluminium alternatives is regrettable, and greatly reduces the aesthetic value of the building - reinstatement of these windows would significantly enhance the appeal of this historic building.

Located at 55 Gover Street, part of old town section 1542.
