Image taken between late-1880 and late-1883, as the large building at the centre left of the image was a boys school erected by the government, and was reported as being almost complete in December 1880 (Taranaki Herald 17 Dec 1880, page 2). In November 1883, the building was relocated to Poverty Flat to form part of the new Central School, opened in 1884 (Taranaki Herald, 17 November 1883, page 2).

63 Lemon Street (Part Town Section 1570) can be seen at the left of the image, 99 Lemon Street (Part Town Section 1581) can be seen in its original form near the middle of the image, the very corner of 75 Eliot Street can also be seen at the extreme left of the image - these are the only three buildings present in this image thought to still be standing.
