Lucy Sarten was a passenger on the William Bryan.

Born in Martock, Somersetshire, 11th August, 1814.

Died in December, 1888.

Lucy was the first woman settler ashore at New Plymouth on 31 March 1841. 

She had suffered so much from seasickness and had a baby so she was given this privelage. 

She is buried in the family grave in the St Marys cemetary. 

She was married 17 July 1836 and had 14 children (11 of them born in NZ).
