William was christened at St Breward on the 15th February, 1795.

William died at his home on Frankley Road, 10th June, 1875.

William was the 5th child of Edward and Mary Billing, a farmer of St Breward in Cornwall, England. 

William was a schoolteacher at Boydon Cornwall, when he married Eliza, and at some period of his early life was a Coast Guard, being on the lookout for the many smugglers that inhabited the land of Cornwall. 

On coming to New Plymouth William gave up his teaching career and became a farmer. 

William Billing his wife Eliza and daughter Mary left Plymouth on the 'Amelia Thompson' on the 25/3/1841 arriving in New Plymouth on 3/9/1841.

William and Eliza's family were:  Mary (1st m.  John Bishop Snr, ) & (2nd m.  Hicholas Golding), William (m.  Annie Christensen), Thomas (m.  Emma McKoy), Cholwill, Edward, Wilfinda, Elizabeth, Belinda (m.  Charles Honnor), Robert (m.  Mary Hope), Henry and Eliza-Alice.
