This attractive two-storied villa was constructed for Henry James Fisher in 1890, and was designed by well known New Plymouth architect James Sanderson.

In May 1890, Henry Fisher had part of sections 13 and 13A, Hua District, surveyed by Thomas Gore Sole, and later that same month, architect James Sanderson called for tenders for "the erection of residence and other buildings at Bell Block, for H. J. Fisher, Esq".

Mr Fisher only lived in the home for eight years, he being found lying dead in a paddock on the farm in November 1898 - the cause of death was believed to have been a heart attack.

Following Fisher's death the property and livestock were sold.
