Topic: 45 McLean Street (1921)

Topic type:

One of four homes constructed for the New Plymouth Borough Council in 1921, presumably for use as dwellings for council workers - all four homes survive, and are located at 43, 45 and 47 McLean Street, and 20 Beach Street.

A permit was granted by the New Plymouth Borough Council to themselves on 5 August 1921 for the construction of '4 cottages' on sections 17 and 18,  McLean Street - H. Peterson was the builder, and the estimated construction cost for all 4 homes was £3000.

All four homes have social value as an example of a local council providing social housing for its employees.
