A permit was granted to New Plymouth dentist Augustus Charles Hugh Collins on the 13th of April 1912 for the construction of a residence on Town Section 557 - the architect was Frank Messenger and the home had an estimated cost of £888.

The home is in the transitional style, and features sash windows with divided upper panes and a single lower pane - a style commonly used by Frank Messenger. The home is significant as one of the first homes in New Plymouth utilising features of the bungalow style.
