137 Lemon Street 2017

2017 View: By Hamish Crimp

This attractive cottage was constructed for Mrs Sussanah Lennon during 1903.

The 1902-03 NPBC rating book notes Susannah Lennon as the ratepayer for Town Sections 2098 and 2099, although no house is present on the property, and it is valued at £30. The 1903-04 NPBC rating book again notes Susannah as the ratepayer, but this time a house is present on the sections, and the rateable value has increased to £32. A building permit has not yet been found.

Town Sections 2097-2113 were initially offered for sale in late 1896 and early 1897 - several businesses including Mitchinson's Plant Nursery occupied the site prior to this time. Most of the houses were built after this time, and whilst some have been removed, this section of Lemon Street still contains a number of late 1890s and early 1900s homes.
