This home was constructed for Waitara saddler James Purdie and his family about 1900 or 1901. 

In 1902 James Purdie was declared bankrupt, and tenders were called for "the equity of redemption of sections 10, 11 and 12, Block 82, Waitara West, containing 3 roods more or less, together with a new 5-roomed house erected on section 12".
