Park Tennis and Croquet Club Site 2017

2017 view of steps and low retaining wall - these were regrettably removed in May 2018

In June 1910 the Pukekura Park Board recieved a letter from Messrs. L. Little, H. J. M. Mills, T. C. Schnackenberg, S. L. Mark, F. Tribe, and K. Webster, stating that “a movement was on foot to form a tennis club in Vogeltownand the promoters are very desirous of utilising a portion of the Park fronting the Carrington Road, and adjoining the Vogeltown entrance—lying between the entrance and the caretaker’s cottage".

The grounds were officially opened at 2:30pm on Tuesday 3 January 1911 after many months of work by club members and the wider community.

The last remant of the site, a low concrete retaining wall and steps, were regrettably removed by bulldozer in early May 2018 - these were probably constructed in 1933, when the new clubhouse (relocated to Upjohn Street site), was constructed.

The Club relocated to Upjohn Street in 1953, and its name was changed to the Pukekura Park Tennis Club in 1975.
