Here's a list of some websites we use to help us answer homework questions for our customers, please let us know if you know of others.

  • Wicked  Wicked provides curriculum-based learning activities, many of which have been developed to reflect a literacy, numeracy and ESOL focus.  The activities are intended to support facilitated or independent use by students.
  • Dictionary New Zealand Biography (DNZB) This website contains over 3,000 biographies of New Zealanders who have 'made their mark' on this country. it does not include people who are alive. So you will not find people like Helen Clark or Sean Fitzpatrick, but you will find people like George Nepia or Michael Joseph Savage.
  • Paperspast  Papers Past contains more than one million pages of digitised New Zealand Newspapers and Periodicals.  The collection covers the years 1839 to 1920 and includes publications from all regions of New Zealand.
  • Te Ara  ‘Te Ara' in Māori means ‘the pathway'. Te ara - the encyclopedia of new zealand offers many pathways to understanding New Zealand.  When complete, it will be a comprehensive guide to the country's peoples, natural environment, history, culture, economy, institutions and society.
  • Evaluating a website  When you need to do research, the World Wide Web is a great resource. Here are some steps to help you use the web for your research.
  •  How do I get started with research The big6tm is an Information Literacy Curriculum, an information problem-solving process, and a set of skills which provide a strategy for effectively and efficiently meeting information needs.
  • Puke Ariki Website Access to Taranaki Stories and other library services.
  • Any Questions Real-time access to librarians from any computer between the hours of 1.00pm and 6.00pm.
  • Many Answers Sister site to Any Questions.  Topics compiled from questions from the Any Questions site. 
  • Stuff Current affairs news site
  • National Geographic for kids Interactive kids web site offereing information about animals, sustainablility and ecology. 
  • The Science Learning Hub  Science related topics, although it is aimed at years 9-12, it is still useful for budding younger scientists.
  • Searchme. Search engines with a difference, results are presented visually, unlike Google which displays results textually.
  • Google Very popular search engine. 
  • Conservation Department of Conservation information relating to native animals and plants.
  • Glossary Internet and web jargon
  • New Zealand History New Zealand history, with curriculum based topics.
  • Parliament To explore parliament and the democratic process.
  • The Governor-General Official website
  • The Whitehouse Find out all about American politics and presidents
  • Book reviews  Kids book reviews
  • New Zealand Music Month  This site offers talks about the history and importance of New Zealand Music Month. 
  • Taranaki Stories on the Puke Ariki Website, here you will find some interesting history stories as well as some quirky stories.
  • Yuckiest Website on the Internet and find out all about pus and scabs and other fascinating bodily functions! 
  • The Auckland Museum Cenotaph Database - which holds biographical information about New Zealand Servicemen and Women.
